Technologies of Togetherness - VBKÖ

VBKÖ invites artists and collectives to submit proposals for a collaborative project that will take place in May and June, 2026.

Technologies of Togetherness is a collaborative artistic project that explores collective creation, shared knowledge, and community-based artistic practices. The project invites artists and/or collectives to develop artistic interventions in collaboration with members of two Vienna-based communities: the ⤇ Augustin Street Vendors and the ⤇ Schwarze Frauen Community.

We are looking for two artists and/or collectives who are interested in facilitating a collaborative creative process that brings together artistic practice and community experiences.

Through Technologies of Togetherness, VBKÖ invites people to explore how artistic creation can become a technology of community, a set of shared practices that heal, transmit knowledge, create joy, and strengthen bonds. Inspired by Indigenous and Afro-diasporic worldviews, the open call understands artistic practice as a tool for collectivity, solidarity, and resistance.

What will the selected artists do?

Each selected artist/collective will facilitate three workshops with members of either Augustin or Schwarze Frauen Community. Through these workshops, artists and participants will co-create a collective artistic intervention.

The workshops will take place in May at VBKÖ's exhibition space, where the public can see traces of the collaborative process.

The final works will be presented in June.

Possible formats include:

  • Performance
  • Installation
  • Exhibition
  • Participatory intervention

Each workshop group will include approximately 6 participants.
The aim of the project is to explore artistic collaboration, shared authorship, and new forms of togetherness through creative practice.

 Who are we looking for?

We welcome applications from artists or collectives who:

  • have experience working in community-based or participatory art practices
  • are interested in collaborative creation with diverse groups
  • work within or are informed by queer-feminist, anti-racist, and decolonial perspectives
